The UK Technology Adoption Index
The UK Technology Adoption Index is the first comprehensive measurement of Industry 4.0 technology adoption across UK engineering companies. By combining five independent data sources — website content, social media activity, AI-powered web search, patent filings, and company profiles — the index provides a multi-dimensional view of how UK engineering firms are embracing advanced manufacturing technologies.
This project represents a pioneering approach to measuring technology adoption at scale, using deterministic signal detection across publicly available data to build a statistically rigorous national index.

The UK's national academy for engineering, advancing excellence in engineering for the benefit of society. RAEng commissioned this study to understand the state of Industry 4.0 adoption in UK engineering.
